School/Center Overview

Founded through the generosity and vision of publisher, diplomat, and philanthropist Walter Annenberg, the Annenberg School is devoted to furthering our understanding of the role of communication in public life through research, education, and service.


The Annenberg School for Communication’s Center for Media at Risk provides a hub for practical and scholarly discussions of the global media environment and how its practitioners work under threatening political conditions.The Administrative Assistant will provide general administrative support to the Center, and will serve as a resource for visiting scholars, research scholars, and post-doctoral fellows. This includes assisting international scholars and postdocs with the J-1 visa application process, as well as providing support to both international and domestic visitors with travel, arrival and orientation details, office support, and housing arrangements. The assistant will manage all of the Center’s social media outlets, including continual updating of Twitter, Facebook, and other social media platforms. They will also help maintain the Center’s website and help manage the Center’s general communications, including emails, promotion materials, and event invitations, and will liaise with the ASC Communications office as needed.The assistant will assist with basic financial procedures, such as purchase orders and C-form requests, travel reimbursements, and honoraria payments. The assistant will help ensure the smooth operation of all activities and programming related to the Center. They will report directly to the Center Coordinator. Other duties as assigned.


A High School diploma and 3 to 5 years administrative and social media experience, or equivalent combination of education and experience, is required. A Bachelor’s degree is strongly preferred. The ideal candidate has advanced social media and other technological skills. Must have the ability to work independently, be highly motivated and enthusiastic, a team player, possess excellent organizational skills, outstanding communication skills, and have the ability to identify and/or problem-solve diverse administrative issues. An overall knowledge of administrative and clerical procedures and systems is required. The ideal candidate will have a thorough attention to detail, be proactive in their approach to their responsibilities, able to prioritize assignments, and work effectively in a small office environment. Must be reliable, flexible, punctual, and exhibit professional maturity. Some schedule flexibility is periodically required related to evening events.
