Visit www.sp2.upenn.eduThe Associate Director of Alumni and Student Engagement reports to the Associate Dean of Institutional Advancement. The position is responsible for designing and implementing alumni programming (e.g. lectures, continuing education and other initiatives) both on campus and remotely; planning and attending alumni special events (both domestic and international, e.g. Alumni Weekend, Homecoming, degree program anniversaries, and networking receptions); connecting with individual and alumni groups on a regular basis, assisting alumni leaders with event marketing, promotion and implementation, and offering guidance and strategic planning for developing alumni groups. Other duties include growing and managing the school’s Dean’s Alumni Board via working with the Board Chair, and collaborating with the Office of Student Affairs to bridge the path for students from students to alumni by spearheading special events/initiatives, including but not limited to: a) SP2 Friday’s – a monthly event hosted by both offices to connect students, faculty and alumni), b) the second-year class gift Campaign, which works with student volunteers to introduce them to giving via a Campaign that encourages participation and raises dollars for SP2’s Annual Fund, and c) SP2’s Corporate Awareness Program (CAP, which is a program that connects student and alumni who are using or planning to use their degrees in nontraditional roles to corporations).DUTIES:a. Spearhead SP2’s comprehensive alumni engagement programs, as well as its growing student engagement programs intended to educate students early on about their status as ‘provisional’ alumni.b. Manage the Dean’s Alumni Board, which includes up to 30 alumni across SP2’s diverse programs. Work closely with the Board’s leadership on recruiting, motivating and managing volunteers, creating Board projects, scheduling, creating agendas for, and attending meetings.c. Working with Administrative Coordinator, plan dedicated alumni activities, including Alumni Weekend and Homecoming for SP2 and/or integrate with university activities where appropriate, as well as continuing education opportunities.d. Serve as alumni relations representative/liaison at School and select University alumni engagement boards/activities.e. Serve as liaison for career services for alumni-related collaborations.f. Manage School’s Pipeline for Promise Program – program that introduces community college students to the field of social policy & practice and works with them to bridge their associates to a bachelors and possibly post bachelors degrees, as well as other special, alumni-related projects and prizes.g. Working with SP2 student leadership and the IA Associate Directors, spearhead and manage the SP2 2nd year Class Gift Campaign, to meet established with participation and dollar goals.
Bachelor’s Degree; and 3-5 years development experience, knowledge of alumni relations, including program and event planning. Experience within a college or university setting preferred. Creative individual, who, with minimal supervision, can develop & enhance programs to meet the goal of increased alumni engagement; strong interpersonal skills; ability to interact with individuals at all economic levels (e.g. alumni and other volunteers), who have an interest and commitment to social service and policy issues; ability to communicate effectively and clearly in both oral and written form; keen organizational skills and attention to detail; ability to work both collaboratively and independently as needed. Must have valid driver’s license. Travel and some weekend and evening work required.
