Seeking a Research Assistant to abstract pertinent information from medical charts directly into an electronic database. Data to be collected will include patient demographics, clinical and laboratory data, vital signs and medications. Much of the data will be available in the EMR (electronic medical record). The research assistant will follow a standardized process designed to ensure consistency and reliability. Data will be collected from electronic databases within the University of Pennsylvania Health System (UPHS). These databases include Sunrise, EPIC and Medview. This position will collect study samples (human or environmental); obtain informed consent from human subjects; keep detailed records of patients included/excluded and attend regular meetings; work with and report to investigators, project manager, and a research coordinator, and Interact with hospital personnel who collaborate on the studies.
A HS Diploma and 3 to 5 years of experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience required. College degree or coursework is a plus. Prior clinical research experience is preferred. Previous clinical research experience using hospital databases (e.g., EPIC, Sunrise, Medview) is a plus. Having some familiarity with medical terminology is highly desirable. Experience with RedCap is a plus. In addition, the research assistant needs to be able to work independently, demonstrate great attention to detail, have excellent communication and interpersonal skills, maintain orderly records, be highly organized and seek guidance as necessary. Flexibility to work occasional early evenings/weekends is required. Position contingent upon funding.
