Duties

The University of Pennsylvania’s Development and Alumni Relations Marketing and Communications (DARMAX) Department is responsible for conceiving and executing communications strategies to advance the goals of Penn’s Development and Alumni Relations office (DAR) and the mission of the University.The Director of Digital Communications is a strategic leader within the central Development and Alumni Relations (DAR) communications staff. The primary focus of this position is to strategically direct the DAR Campaign website and diverse social media tools to advance Penn’s mission and goals around donor and alumni engagement. This position has editorial oversight of all digital content within DARmax, and works closely with the Director of Stewardship Communications, Director of Strategic Writing, and the Graphic Design department to coordinate the production and dissemination of content between DARmax’s various print and digital assets. The responsibilities of this position require exceptional planning and project management skills, with a thorough knowledge of website management, marketing analytics, and social media best practices, as well as an understanding of the strategic use of video as a digital medium. This position manages the Associate Director of Digital Communications. This position reports to the Executive Director of Marketing and Communications for Development and Alumni Relations and works closely with the Senior Director of Campaign Operations. Major Duties and Responsibilities:* Develop and implement a robust web and social media strategy for Penn DAR, specifically focused on promoting the Power of Penn Campaign. An annual strategy should be created, with a three-year strategy in mind at any given time.* Coordinate with Development offices across the University to ensure that School, Center, and Central unit needs are effectively represented in DARmax digital strategies, and to maximize collaboration strategically in support of overall campaign communications goals.* Provide leadership, guidance, and assistance around digital communications to DAR colleagues across the university, both reactively and proactively.* Ensure the continuous updating and maintenance of The Power of Penn Campaign website with current written, photographic, and video content-sourcing new content as appropriate and providing editorial oversight.* Manage and work closely with at least one direct report-the Associate Director for Digital Communications-who is responsible for in-house video production and editing, and supporting social media strategy implementation and website updates.* Assist the Executive Director of DARmax and the Sr. Director of Campaign Operations in conceptualizing high quality web-videos, approximately 2-3 minutes each, to be produced through vendor relationships in support of campaign priorities – three+ projects per year * Assist in designing and implementing strategies for marketing the campaign tour events and other campaign-related regional events through email, web content, and social media content.* Establish and oversee quantifiable evaluation processes to measure success of digital outreach efforts and adjust strategies responsively.* Manage projects on deadline and within budget.

Qualifications

BA/BS with 5-7 years of communications experience; or equivalent combination of both education and experience. Excellent planning and project management skills across multiple digital platforms including websites, social media, mobile applications. Creative experience in conceptualizing content-rich and media-rich websites, social networking campaigns and interactive web features. Experience and facility with CMS platforms. Working knowledge of HTML. Acumen for data management. Experience and proficiency with video production and Premier Pro or similar video editing software a plus, but not required. Demonstrated ability to manage multiple, highly demanding projects; to establish and meet deadlines. Exceptional interpersonal skills with a high degree of competency and comfort in interacting with people at all levels of professional distinction. Strong management and team building skills.
