Duties

The Executive Director is responsible for overseeing the center’s research programs, events and communications, development/stewardship of corporate and individual donors, and student/alumni activities. The Executive Director will have expertise in data and analytics, having the ability to supervise data science staff, the ability to scope projects with leading data-oriented companies, and the ability to advise students (at all levels) about data analytics careers. The Executive Director will also act as an ambassador for the initiative and enhance its position as a thought leader by speaking at industry and academic events, contributing to white papers, leading roundtable discussions, and creating course content. The Executive Director will coordinate and lay out a vision for the teaching of analytics-based courses at all levels – undergraduates, Masters and Executives. To facilitate Wharton’s global presence in analytics, the Executive Director should have deep connections with analytics professionals and leaders in industry around the world, and be able to facilitate those conversations. The Executive Director needs to have capabilities around building a global footprint for WCAI which has been primarily US-based.The Executive Director will work closely with the academic co-directors and develop strategy for the future mission of the initiative. The Executive Director will be responsible for shaping future programs, determine resource requirements, oversee staffing decisions and manage those programs to success. A critical aspect of the job is developing and maintaining relationships with corporate partners, donors, scholars, and other organizations within the school and university to help the center achieve its mission of promoting customer analytics. The Executive Director will be directly responsible for managing the Research Director, Data Science staff and Associate Director for the center.

Qualifications

A master’s degree and 7 – 10 years of relevant experience or equivalent experience is required. The ideal candidate will have experience buildingrelationships between companies and universities, as well as experience managing university-based programs. Familiarity with analytics is required. Preferred experience in managing data and analytics staff so as to be able to act as an ambassador for the initiative, manage high-level corporate partnerships, and enhance WCAI’s position as a thought leader by speaking at industry events, contributing to white papers, leading roundtable discussions, and creating course content. Experience engaging with individual and corporate donors a plus. Demonstrated ability to manage others and successfully lead a group required.
