Duties

Management of the physical and virtual server infrastructure; installation, maintenance, and security of all servers, configuration and management of firewalls, network switches, intrusion detection mechanisms to secure IT infrastructure; development of technology solutions to advance the objectives of the Division of Public Safety; support other DPS IT staff and service as tier 2 escalation point for IT infrastructure troubleshooting; working with identified partners to ensure that technology solutions are appropriate and functional within the university; perform regular system administration tasks such as: backup/restore, server monitoring, patch management, system documentation, and recommendation of new technologies for implementation; and supervision of one direct report, IT Support Specialist Jr. The Divisional IT Support Specialist, Sr. will support the Critical Infrastructure IT Support Specialist, Sr. in collaborating with our contracted partners and the Security System Administrator’s in maintaining and supporting the electronic security infrastructure including CCTV, access control, burglar alarms, emergency phone systems, and related security technology systems, emergency telephony, land mobile radio, mobile data terminals, and proprietary dispatch and police software.

Qualifications

Experience with the following technologies: Windows Server 2003, 2008, 2012, VMware vSphere, VMware ESX, VMware vcenter, windows 7, Microsoft SharePoint, Symantec Endpoint Protection, SQL Server, Group Policy, Microsoft IIS, Cisco Firewalls, Juniper Firewalls, Dell Switches, Exchange 2010, Numara Footprints, Barracuda Web Filter, Video Management systems, access control systems – experience with Software House C-Cure and Genetec Security Center a plus.Excellent oral and written communications skills and the ability to interact with DPS personnel at all levels is required. Must be able to handle multiple projects simultaneously, at times with strict deadlines. Must work well both as part of a team as well as independently. Excellent analytical skills and ability to learn new technologies are required. Must be physically able to lift 50 lbs. and move about actively. Must be able available to provide 24 hour hardware and software support for the DPS Information and Security Technology infrastructure as needed.A bachelor’s degree is required and 3-7 years of experience or equivalent combination of education and experience. Certification in Genetec, Software House C-Cure, Comp TIA Network+, and Microsoft server products a plus.This position is classified as essential personnel (24 hours/7 days), which may require weekends; must be willing to work on-call. Must successfully pass a criminal background check. Must sign a confidentiality statement. The University of Pennsylvania is an EOE.
