Duties

The Gene Therapy Program (GTP) is entering a new era of unprecedented opportunity with the great potential to reshape the face of medicine as we know it. Our discoveries have set the stage for successful treatments and possibly even cures for devastating genetic diseases. The laboratory of Dr. James Wilson, at GTP of the University of Pennsylvania, has been a leader in the development of innovative vector technology for close to three decades. We have emerged as the ‘go-to’ organization for public and private partners, who want to participate in the gene therapy space. Currently, we are positioned to lead another round of vector innovation and establish pre-clinical and clinical proof-of-concept in therapeutic applications of in-vivo genome editing.We are currently seeking an Senior Director, Research Operations (SDRO), provide focused leadership of our facilities, laboratory and Program for Comparative Medicine vivarium operations. Reporting to the Chief Operations Officer (COO), the SDRO will partner with the COO and others on the Executive Team on incorporating GTP strategic initiatives into facility maintenance, space planning, laboratory and vivarium operations (procurement, inventory, maintenance). You will have a high-level oversight of program for comparative medicine vivarium operations and facility/equipment, ensuring validation plans are developed and executed. You will be the primary contact with all external vendors as it relates to research and GLP laboratory operations. Oversee and direct Laboratory Operations group to ensure efficient and effective operations of labs and vivariums. You will develop the strategic plan for routine and timely evaluations of a complex variety of resource and equipment needed for optimal laboratory & vivarium operations. Oversee budget management for programs/operations and the allocation of resources.As a qualified candidate, you will have experience in research laboratory operations at a broad scale including aspects of an animal research program.

Qualifications

Master’s Degree in life science with 5 years of progressive experience within a large research environment. Ph. D. preferred* Experience working with an animal research program required. Experience with vivarium operations preferred but not required.* Previous experience in GLP, GMP strongly preferred.* Experienced leader with a strong ability to motivate, mentor and develop individuals and teams.* Demonstrated ability to communicate to senior audiences; Strong inter-personnel skills are essential.* Self starter but also a strong desire to contribute and work collaboratively to achieve goals.* Success in roles requiring execution of multiple tasks while responding to multiple priorities.
