The Center for High Impact Philanthropy at the University of Pennsylvania (www.impact.upenn.edu) announces an opportunity for up to three Senior Research Coordinators. The ideal candidates are early career professionals who show a strong interest in honing their ability to conduct social impact analysis, and who are committed to strengthening the philanthropic and social sector. This position may require some travel.DutiesConducting reviews of academic and grey literature within issue areaEvaluating effective interventions and issue areas for potential for philanthropic impactAnalyzing the economics/cost-per-impact of various options for actionConducting site visits and interviews with non-profit organizations to understand and better communicate the operational details of effective and promising programs within issue area (may involve travel)Work with senior analysts, directors, advisors and others to synthesize applied research findings into draft final recommendationsSupervise student interns and other temporary research assistants in providing preliminary inputs into key center projectsPosition is contingent on continued funding.
A Bachelor’s Degree and 3 to 5 years of experience, or equivalent combination of education and experience, are required. Detail oriented, but also creative and resourceful in sourcing data and knowledge from a variety of sources and people. Experience working as a member of a small, highly collaborative, professional team. Outstanding communication skills (written and verbal). Demonstrated ability to interact effectively with individuals from multiple disciplines and levels of seniority and to write clearly and compellingly to a lay audience. Facility developing material and displaying analysis in a variety of formats (e.g., powerpoint presentation, excel spreadsheet, 1-page memo, 20-page report). Comfortable with ambiguity, intellectually entrepreneurial and enjoys a fast-paced learning environment. Mastery of excel and other analytic tools.Familiarity with standard research methodologies and key players/trends in philanthropy a plus.
