The Senior Associate Director, as a member of the Corporate and Foundations Relations team within Wharton External Affairs, will focus on the expansion of Wharton’s success with foundation funders. With a steady increase in professional foundation funding over the past five years, the Senior Associate Director will be responsible for the renewal of existing funding as well as achieving new sources of support for key initiatives across the School. In addition to sourcing leads from traditional foundation resources, this staff member will take an entrepreneurial approach to expanding Wharton’s pool of funders, leveraging the relationships of board members, Wharton alumni, faculty, and corporate contacts with ties to Foundations. The successful candidate will be expected to develop strong internal relationships with Wharton leadership, faculty, and development colleagues across the University of Pennsylvania. A key aspect of the role will be crafting compelling proposals that contribute to the larger case for supporting Wharton’s campaign. This position will create, manage and execute solicitation and stewardship strategies for a portfolio of foundation funders. It will source leads to expand the pool of active donors, through research and face-to-face meetings with both internal (Wharton) and external constituents. Either directly or with the support of Wharton External Affairs Communications, it will create grant proposals and compile accompanying materials. To help accomplish this, travel of up to 15% will be required.


Bachelors Degree plus 5-7 years experience in fundraising with an emphasis on foundation development, or equivalent combination of education and experience required. Excellent Communications and interpersonal skills. Ability to function with a high degree of independence with an assigned group of prospects, yet interact with colleagues in a centralized framework and contribute to a total team effort. Must be able to interact comfortably with faculty, administrators and CEO-level contacts. Knowledgeable of corporations, foundations, corporate foundation and management education desirable. Computer literate. Ability to travel.
